Fold Forward Seatback on FEH ?

Re: Fold Forward Seatback on FEH ?
I've always wondered how those side air bags work.
I have the leather package.
Does it just rip the seams on seats or what?
Pretty interesting that you need a seat durable enough to last 10-15 years, and yet be weak enough to rip open in milliseconds.
Could be some pretty powerful pyros in there.
I read that the FEH has "pyrotecnic seat-belt pretensioners" as well.
Not sure how that works either, but is it supposed to (tighten?) your seatbelt during a crash?

I've read about the seat-belt pretensioners... and thats exactly what they are designed to do. A small charge yanks the seatbelt tight when accident happens.

Re: Fold Forward Seatback on FEH ?
Just got a followup email from Autoanything.com, and they have indeed been mistaking a Ford Edge for the Ford Escape. Covercraft does not make an airbag compatible seatcover for the Escape.
BTW, this has been a very disappointing experience with Autoanything, conflicting, misleading, and bad information from beginning to end. Their so called "Product Specialists" are worthless.

Re: Fold Forward Seatback on FEH ?
Walt, don't the airbags deploy out of the side of the front seat cushions? On mine there's an "airbag" label on the side of the seatback, about shoulder height. I assumed that any seatcover I installed would need an opening there to allow the airbag to deploy. If that's not how it works I may be able to use the seatcovers I already have, which don't have any opening on the sides.
On the picture posted, those seats have plastic doors which pop open, and the air bags deploy thru the open door.
With the type the Escape has, not only does one have to replace the air bag after deployment, but the seat covering/upholstery too. The insurance companies don't like that added expense. On the picture posted, just the air bag needs to be replaced. After that, the body shop just needs to close the door back up. A lot cheaper.
