When my thermostat failed open it behaved in a similar fashion.

ok, the MECS pump is running when the key is turned to the ON position but the engine is not running, so is the Aux. Coolant pump that is whineing...

Now I removed the cover in the back to check the battery fans and no air flow in run position engine off OR when the car is running... Sounds like two bad battery fans ehh?

And from what I've read this should be covered under the battery warranty?

If it is the battery fans and you have less than 100,000 miles, they better be covered!

I am correct in that the Battery Fans should be running all time? Or at least for a while as soon as you turn the key to the run position right?

I am very disappointed that I didn't even get a check engine light for the battery fans being off... Like I said my wife drives the car so when I happened to drive it and I heard no fans upon turning the key to run, I was like that's weird... Cause I always noticed them while sitting in the car listening to the radio while she's in the store and the radio times out and I'd turn the key back on and off the fans would run a bit to presumably clear the battery compartment of fumes...
