Nice find, brennja. I figured someone would figure out how to do this eventually!

I am going to bite the bullet and take advantage of the $150 price my dealer offered me for the 6.1 version of the DVD.

Now I just need to find someone with a dual layer burner so I can do the DVD surgery.

Hmm and if 3 or 4 of us all pitch in the cost of the new DVD will only be like $50 per person...I am willing to kick in if there are a few others.

Nice find...

I have the DVD Burner in my Video Processing system..

One of the things you could do is to RIP the DVDs you have (doesn't take a burner) - Zip the file and FTP it to the person you want to combine the software.. That way the original DVDs never leavesyour hands (if you're worried) and it makes sense to have a "Backup" of the software you paid good money for..

Has anyone had success "downgrading" the nav firmware FROM v6.1 TO v5.1 or in getting the merged file to work?

I hope no one thinks that I would also be willing to pitch in, as soon as someone can add the override feature of v5.1 to v6.1. Say "no" to piracy.

If you legally own both versions of the software - You can do whatever you like with it (including disassembling / changing) as long as you do not sell or distribute it..

My suggestion was simply a method of transferring your legally obtained software to someone who could/would combine it for you on your behalf and then transfer the output back to that person.

The notion of not being able to modify something that you have outright purchased goes along hand-in-hand with the removal of mattress and pillow tags...

It's yours and you can do as you please.

Now - if the license agreement (which I've not read - since I don't have my TCH-NAV yet) states that you are simply leasing the software, then things may get a little touchey..

Having been a software developer for many years - I am keenly aware of pirated software and in no way condone the practice.
