Default Driving Before Engine Starts

I am in the habit of putting the car in drive and taking off in e mode, because I don't want to wait the 14 seconds until the engine spools up.

Is this hard on the car or drive train?

I think during warmup, the car will try to use electric power as much as it can anyway so I don't think so. I do the same thing but I try not to accelerate too hard.

That would be true only if one drives in that fashion all the time.

It's my understanding that you just need to wait for the READY light. The ICE does not need to be running

I don't understand the OP.
The ICE does not wait 14 seconds to spool up.
If you press harder on the "gas" pedal, the ICE will kick on immediately. (But yes, it WILL come on no matter what maybe 14 seconds after starting the engine)

Bottom line, when the Ready light is on, just drive the car how you want and let the computer handle it.
