Your correct other than some software updates I think.

Thats why I ordered the 06 HCH because it was obvious that for all practicality that Honda has more or less written off the Insight and only now sales it with a sold order being placed by a dealer.

I think you're right in that the Insight was the testbed, and now Honda is pushing the Civic 4-door to penetrate the global market, esp. as a counterpoint to the Prius.
