I had my 4th fill up this morning. Again, I took it to the filler neck. This time it was only 1.4 mpg off (dash gauge reading low). The last two tanks were exactly 2.0 off.

If you put 500 miles and your fill up can vary by only a half gallon (which is quite easy to do) it can affect your mpg reading by 2 mpg or more. I have since quit comparing and rely on the display.
From my limited experience and from the posts here, it seems that the HCHII display FE is consistently low (~2mpg). If you want accurate numbers, you have to calculate the FE yourself. It is true that you could have some variation from tank to tank, but this is the best way to monitor lifetime FE. If the display is off by a few mpg, there is no other way around it. I know this is really trivial and a few mpg may not be important to you.

So far, I have been calculating and recording the display number when I refuel.

Every non Honda I have experienced is always 5-10% higher on the trip computer reading as opposed to the acutual figure measured at the pump.

The only Honda I have owned with a MPG computer (2006 Odyssey) is consistently within 1MPG, and consistently displays a slightly lower number than acutal pump measured FE.

I have yet to check out the HCH, as I have not even filled it up as yet!

My FE is off by approximately 2mpg when comparing the HCH II’s display compared to calculating the FE. The HCH II display is lower – to help try and eliminate possible differences in calculating (filling up to the same level each time), I used the same gas pump, filling at the same flow rate and the difference is around +2mpg in favor of calculating the numbers.

Same here, my computed mpg is usually +2 over the display.

My lifetime average is now at 55.18 mpg. Using the dash numbers to calculate gas usage per tank and then calculating lifetime average, it is 54.25 mpg. This is a difference of 0.93 mpg (1.69%) through 4,479 miles and 81.17 gallons.

Hi,

I have a HCH II (2006) and I'm actually getting 5.7 mpg over what the reading says (I calculate 40.1mpg but the display say 34.4mpg)

Does anyone else notice this much of a deviation?
