No red tape, same form has spot for 'replacement' of originals and you should be good to go again.

Mid-Nov: received plates, sent in $8 check
Mid-Dec: received letter saying all 75000 stickers were issued, wait until new year
Jan 8: received stickers!

Check cashed: Unknown - I'm yet to see the $8 taken out of my account. Kind of odd.

And a word of recommendation I neglected to follow: Wash your car before applying these. It's amazing the kind of crap that builds up on a car in LA, and adhering that stuff permanently to your car via a sticker may not be best for the paint. I only stuck one on before this occurred to me but still... hopefully that one doesn't fall off.

BLAZING FAST, although make sure and check ALL info on the card they send with the stickers. They put my first name as the city I live in instead of my name. The 1st person I have talked to at DMV said it is no problem they will just send new card. We'll see !!

NEW INFORMATION, Talking to DMV lady in Sacramento about the card info problem and she says there are less than 1000 stickers left. Hurry and get those applications in!!!!

Stupid previous owner - wth wouldt you apply for the stickers, and in LA!

 

If they went from 83000 to 89000 that fast, then I'm guessing they're plowing through a backlog of sticker apps right now - meaning the last 10000 are gonna be gone real soon. Send now or forever stay out of the HOV lane... .

I was sweating this so having my check cashed is a really good sign.

 

Got the stickers yesterday 1/17

 

I didn't submit my application until after I got plates (required for the form) and then DMV cashed the $8 check and about 3 weeks later I received the stickers. All told the whole process from purchase of vehicle to getting the stickers was about 2 months, BUT this will depend on how long it takes to get your plates. My stepson also bought the HCHII one week after I did and he still doesn't have his plates. Caveat here: you have to wait till you get your plates (IMO).

 

Many people in this thread sent in the app before getting their plates, just left it blank. I waited, but I had my plates in 5 days, and one of them was a holiday!

 

I would have sent my HOV form in with no plates, but DMV said don't even go there...ok...never one to buck DMV. I was heartened to hear that the prisons are still operating on a holiday and that our great state was gracious enough to use that time.
