Re: what are gas prices at for you?
Can you spell ENRON all over again!!!! We need these oil execs on trial and in jail as well.
Have you ever taken the time to notice that since Enron folded there hasn't been rolling black outs in CA or the big electrical shortages due to 'maintainence' at the power facilities. Big oil has just taken a page from the Enron book and know with 'W' in office and the politicians in their pockets nobody is going to beat them up too bad. All the additional tax revenue for the states and Feds have made them very happy and more $$ for Pork projects.
Unfortunately due to the high gas and energy prices and the big corporations moving all the jobs overseas we will soon not even be able to afford a horse to get around on.....
No new refineries in over 30 years and big oil buying up the small guys and tearing down theirs has created this problem and we will not be out of it any time soon. All the problems were identified in the 70's and in 30+ years we did NOTHING to prevent it from happening again.

There are actually fewer refineries today than 30 years ago. It is amazing that the increases in output have been able to more or less match demand until recently.
The inconvienent truth is that we do need these facilities, (and other industrial things like mines etc.), and unless we all begin to be willing to have them in MBY, increased prices is what will happen.

More than half the vehicles on America's roads are SUV's and pickup trucks (gas hogs). Americans have only themselves to blame for high gasoline prices.

Funny, but did you hear why there is going to be a new space race to the moon? Turns out it is not useless dust after all.
The moon contains copius amounts of Helium3. Helium4 is what you fill your party ballons with. Helium3 is very, very rare on Earth.
Why do we care? Current research in fusion reactors involves Hydrogen.
But Hydrogen fusion is dangerous, and difficult to handle.
Turns out, Helium fusion is safe, and easy to handle...
If only we had some Helium3....
1 kg of helium-3 burned with 0.67 kg of deuterium gives us about 19 megawatt-years of energy output.
Some He3 is available on Earth. It is a by-product of the maintenance of nuclear weapons, which could supply us with about 300 kg of He3 and could continue to produce about 15 kg per year. The total supply in the U.S. strategic reserves of He3 is only about 29 kg.
But there is copius amounts on the moon!
About 25 tons of He3 would power the United States for 1 year at our current rate of energy consumption. To put it in perspective: that's about the weight of a fully loaded truck trailer, or a maximum Space Shuttle payload.
As a replacement for fossil fuel, a load of He3 would be worth $3 billion per ton, or $75 billion per trip. Anyone think it is possible to get to the moon and back for $75 billion per trip ( or less, gotta make a profit, right? )

Plus I saw it on the Discovery Channel, so you know it's true.
