I am embarrassed to admit it, but Bill from Livonia was closest to the truth. It seems that the remote got itself into a strange place in the storage bin and some nearby item was hitting the "on" button. Because we don't keep our cars in the garage in warm weather, we haven't been using the remotes -- we go in and out of the garage with the keypad on the door, which is why I thought for sure there was a connection of some type there.

Ah, well. Thank you all for the advice -- a gremlin would've been a much more interesting solution!

A warm hello to Laurie, my fellow frozen northerner. I'm actually a relocated Detroiter (married a Minnesotan and they always wind up back here). Lots of hybrids in the Twin Cities these days. There are now four on my block -- a Honda (Civic maybe?), a Prius, a Saturn Vue and our Escape -- and one of my co-worker just traded his gas-engine Escape for a hybrid.

Thanks for posting. We all appreciate it. If you hadn't come forth, we would have all been wondering for months! I'm always happier to hear about a simple solution, than a difficult, and costly one.

Enjoy your new car!

I replaced a whole garage door opener for my sister and only later found she had taped a cracked remote and the tape goo was keeping the button depressed. I installed the opener in my barn and it has worked for a decade!

Good to see you back Ray!

My family was just in Boston for my Sons graduation. We stayed at the Hotel Buckminster on the 5th floor overlooking Fenway Park and had a great time. Took the City tour again on the trolley with my Wife, two Sons, Daughter and my Sons girlfriend who graduated from MIT last year. The Gay Pride Parade on Saturday screwed up much of th tour, but my family was the only one on the trolley for most of the tour because of the Parade. The driver gave us more of a private tour and answered a lot of questions for us (real nice guy).

Got off the tour at Quincy Market for lunch at Boston Clowda (soup was out of this world) and took your "T" (subway that Ray maintains and works on I think) to the Convention stop and walked back to Beacon street. We had dinner at the Summer Shack Rest and it was great also.

Man, that MIT puts on one heck of a outdoor Graduation with the biggest TV screen I've ever seen. Then they served like 20,000 people lunch next to the river.

Had a great time, but I wish we could have met up. Anyone could have walked up for a free lunch at the Graduation, it was open to everyone. Hows those two FEH's holding up?

You sure your garage wasn't so happy to see the new FEH that it was waving to it?
