I'm not a geek. I just so said because I wanted to make all you geeks on this board feel better about yourself.

What's that? Knowing the formula for pressure, temperature, volume of a gas makes me a geek?

Never mind.

I always thought because nitrogen will not support combustion. Whereas, air will.

Those tires get mighty hot by the end of a race.

I don't know the proceedure if any for inflating a tire to insure no O2 or moisture in the first place. Assuming the factory isn't using N, the tire starts life with both O2 and moisture. Is there a Nitrogen environment that the tire fillers are working in to insure zero O2 and moisture? Maybe there's a tire sucking device.

If you just release the pressure to atmospheric and then fill with N you still have O2 and moisture. Fill and release many times and you have very little O2 but the moisture remains.

I suppose if the O2 does seep over time you would then be down to zero O2.

But if the O2 does seep my tires gradually get closer and closer to zero O2 over the years just using compressed air.

I'll stick with free compressed air, though it's getting hard to find that already.

Just saw a news story about this purchasing your tires at certain Costco's they fill your tires with nitrogen. The story simply states that it stays more consistent pressure wise and is less likely to slowly leaking due to molecule size. They also made it clear that it is with new tire purchase only. Apparently people have been lining up to fill their tires.
