New laws in the UK give future homes an EV advantage, and VW’s ID. Buzz earns highest award from Top Gear Electric Awards.

While it’s always been an option in the US, the UK is making electric charging stations as standard equipment in any new home being built from June 2022 onwards. This kind of legislation applies not only to homes, but to any building being constructed. With that in place, over 145,000 charge points would be established year over year.

Chargepoint is a front runner for charging tech in the UK. CEO Charlie Cook notes, “June’s legislation ensuring that all new buildings will have an electric vehicle charger built into them is a positive step towards encouraging more EV adoption.” He does also point out that some EV’s have unique chargers, which may land home owners with a charger that isn’t suitable for their needs.

Top Gear Electric Awards gives electric car of the year award to Volkswagen ID. Buzz.

One of the most exciting EV cars to hit the market is the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, and Top Gear just gave it a crowing award at the Top Gear Electric Awards 2022. With style that harkend back to the original and much loved T1 “bus”, the ID. 4 is VW’s first commercial EV. It was designed from the ground up as an EV, and the appeal of a vehicle like this to the flower power generation is undeniable.

Top Gear gave it the Car of the Year award based on a few important factors. Ollie Marriage, head of testing at Top Gear says, “it’s beguilingly simple and yet entirely uplifting. And that’s why it’s our electric car of the year.” But mostly because Volkswagen managed to make a positive environmental impact, while at the same time creating excitement from a new electric vehicle.

Honorable mention, Rimac wins Hypercar of the Year.

Top Gear also presented Rimac with their Hypercar of the year award at this same Electric Car Awards show. The Croatian company which now leads Bugatti has been at the forefront of using EV tech for speed. 0-60 times are in the range of 1.8 seconds, and 100 miles per hour arrives in 4.3. After all, 1,914 horsepower will propel you along rather quickly.
