Tesla-Powered BMW E9

This Tesla-powered BMW E9 Batmobile uses a P85 battery pack and a Model S drivetrain. The electric restomod can accelerate from 0 to 69 MPH in just 3 seconds.

British outfit Electric Classic Cars is a leader in the electric restomod space. Over the years, the company has built many exciting Tesla-swapped offerings, some of which we have discussed to great lengths. The company recently unveiled what might be one of its most exciting creations yet- a Tesla-powered BMW E9 Batmobile.

For those unfamiliar with the E9 nameplate, it is one of the most popular BMW models. The car we have here started life as a BMW CSi, and Electric Classic Cars is responsible for its CSL homage look. To be a successful touring car contender, BMW equipped the CSL with an air dam at the front, short fins that sit atop the front fenders, and a prominent wing that dominates the rear end.

Unlike other BMW models, the “L” in the E9 CSL designation stands for “lightweight”. The homologation model was much lighter than the standard car. Since this car started life as a BMW E9 CSi, it doesn’t get the same lightweight construction. However, with its battery-only drivetrain, the car has a low center of gravity and can achieve incredible traction.

As a result of this, this Tesla-powered BMW E9 Batmobile doesn’t need aerodynamic components like the roof-mounted spoiler to grip the tarmac.

Nevertheless, these add-ons make for quite an attractive ensemble. A Tesla Model S drivetrain propels this sublime all-electric ensemble. The power comes from a large Tesla P85 battery pack which allows the electric CSL to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3 seconds.

The all-electric powertrain churns out 450 HP and delivers 200 miles of driving range. Richard Morgan from Electric Classic Cars shared his thoughts on the electric BMW E9 Batmobile.
“It is a bit heavier but not by much it’s only, um, about a small passenger, I’d say heavier than the original car with a full petrol tank, and it certainly doesn’t feel that when you’re actually driving because the weight distribution is really awesome and in here, it’s such a nice place to be I mean obviously the interior’s gone through a full-on restoration.
