Pontiac Fiero

Okay, we realize that the Pontiac Fiero isn’t an obvious choice, but it would be a strong choice. We know that eventually Corvette will be released as an EV. GM owns Pontiac and could use the same mid-engine EV platform to revive the Fiero. When it came out in 1984 the Fiero was marketed as a sporty daily driver. Mainly so Corvette didn’t riled by spilling the tea: The Pontiac Fiero was a sports car to its core. It brought Pontiac back to its roots and delivered an affordable, appealing option to Corvette.

Production ended on the Fiero in 1988, but it became a shining star in the enthusiast world. We would choose the Fiero not only because it would fit seamlessly with whatever platform Corvette will use, but also as a second chance to nail the performance and handling; an issue that plagued Pontiac from the start. While the Fiero got considerably better by the end of its run, sales were just not enough to keep it going.

Fiero’s design is already perfect for an EV. And GM would be foolish not to offer a more affordable sports car option to the C8 Corvette. However, it definitely must retain many elements from its original design. Hyundai recently proved that it can be done, and done well. Plus it needs solid, consistent performance from the jump. People love the Fiero because it was a zippy, spirited ride that looked rad. Let’s try this again, GM; and this time let’s nail it.
