Lamborghini Announces its “Direzione Cor Tauri” Electrification Strategy

Lamborghini assures its customers that it will continue prioritizing performance and driving dynamics, as the company moves forward with its electrification plan.

Earlier this week, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann revealed the Direzione Cor Tauri (Towards Cor Tauri) strategy, which is Lambo’s new electrification plan. The company describes its strategy as, “a roadmap to decarbonization of future Lamborghini models and of the Sant’Agata Bolognese site based on a holistic approach to its environmental sustainability strategy.”

“Lamborghini’s electrification plan is a newly-plotted course, necessary in the context of a radically-changing world, where we want to make our contribution by continuing to reduce environmental impact through concrete projects. Our response is a plan with a 360 degree approach, encompassing our products and our Sant’Agata Bolognese location, taking us towards a more sustainable future while always remaining faithful to our DNA,” said Winkelmann.

In true Lamborghini fashion, the Italian automaker has confirmed that it will prioritize performance and driving dynamics as the company develops its electrification tech. The company has also revealed that it will execute the Cor Tauri roadmap in three phases. Lamborghini will continue developing IC powertrains as part of its first phase, which is interesting considering that Lambo’s parent company Audi has already announced that it will no longer develop combustion engines.

Back in April, we reported that Lamborghini’s upcoming models might ditch turbochargers and instead employ electric motors for the additional boost. This information was offered by Lamborghini’s Chief Technical Officer, Maurizio Reggiani. Now, Lamborghini has revealed that it will unveil two V12 models by the end of 2021, but the company’s first hybrid series production car will only make its debut by the end of 2024.

This will also mark the beginning of Lamborghini’s hybrid transition, which is the second phase of the Cor Tauri roadmap. The company has allocated €1.5 billion to facilitate its hybrid transition over 4 years. By 2025, Lamborghini aims to cut down its product CO2 emissions by 50%.

Winkelmann explained, “Lamborghini has always been synonymous with preeminent technological expertise in building engines boasting extraordinary performance: this commitment will continue as an absolute priority of our innovation trajectory. Today’s promise, supported by the largest investment plan in the brand’s history, reinforces our deep dedication to not only our customers, but also to our fans, our people and their families, as well as to the territory where the company was born in Emilia-Romagna and to Made in Italy excellence.”

Lamborghini intends to focus on developing carbon fiber applications to offset the weight that electrification will add to its future models. The company will introduce its first battery-only model sometime in the second half of the decade, which will mark the 3rd and final phase of Lamborghini’s electrification plan.
