I'm sorry, but I'm always amazed at these threads. When the tank gets low there's always the potential problem of condensation in a gas tank. Toyota specifically warns about not running out of gas for a reason. I don't understand why people push the limits to be able to say I got fill in the blank miles out of my last tank of gas.

When it gets down to a 1/8 - 1/4 tank just fill it up.

No, unfortunately not, However, there is a guage which tells how much fuel is left in the car

with gas stations all over the place, how can you run out of gas?

Someone actually posted a question about it being bad to fully empty the tank; I would say based on what i have read, yes, it is bad, if there are sediments floating at the top of the gas fluid level (although highly unlikely), fully emptying the gas will allow them to go into the engine, secondly, the fuel injector and the gas lines heat up and the gasoline which runs through them actually helps cool them off. If anyone can think of more reasons please post.

I used to track my mileage, but since i always get consistent results which corresponds to my driving habits, i dont bother anymore, dont We all already know this car is good on gas?: driving normally and briskly will give me 45MPG and babying the car will get me 50MPG+. I now just fill up when i see the gas cheap and try not to wait until there are 2 bars of fuel left.

good luck

Unless you are 90 miles from home where the gas is $0.10/gallon higher than your local station. The bladder in the Prius will keep out condensation. The ONLY time I fill up before 1 bar flashing is if I will be going on a long trip and wouldn't be able to return without buying gas first at a station that might have higher prices. I have had the car 2 years and have had NO problem ever. I don't generally push it, but I'm not going to waste time filling up a week early

You are lucky the gas stations are charging per Gallon, that's only about $1(US) more per fill. I cant believe you're complaining about that

I have to put up rising gas prices per Litre. During the day it goes as high as $0.10 more per Liter and I fill up about 38L. that's almost $4CAN or $3.56US more per fill and i dont see myself or anyone else here complaining about that.

Nope. It's 66.5 miles. My car beeped and it ran out of gas 66.5 miles later. That's how far you can go.

Not complaining. Just saying that I make sure I have the option of buying gas anywhere along the route if it is cheaper than at home or wait until I return if the best price is local. Even at 50ish MPG, I still want the most miles for my money
I know you Canadians are paying a pretty price. WAY back (28 years ago), when I moved to Vermont, gas was cheaper in Canada than here. If you were going to Montreal for the day, you made sure you DIDN'T fill up before you left home. Now it is the other way around. I think $1.00 Can was trading for $0.75 US at the time.

That one time, under that set of circumstances. If I were you (and I'm not so do as you please), I sure wouldn't assume that I would get exactly 66.5 miles after the beep on every tank and not hit the gas station for 65 miles.

Ah, but you could and you'd still have 1.5 miles left to go.

I have ran out of gas twice in my Prius, 5 times in my WRX and once in my protege. From all the running out of gas I have discovered every car works the same way its a avg system so if you are driving 400 miles straight it will take it forever to go down then whamb when it gets low it goes quick. The WRX was the worst as if I drove at 130mph for 100 miles it would be nearly out of fuel but would be at 1/4 tank still and goto e in about 10 miles and run out.

I have developed a rule with the Prius now I look at the consumption screen and times the avg by 10 and thats my ideal time to get fuel give or take 20 miles. as the tanks is a variable 11.9 gallons. If your are a neck filler you can times it by 11 I Just got done with a 6000 mile trip across usa and never ran out anoys me tho and dunno why when i ahve to stop and get 7 gallons of fuel seems like so little but in those western states you have to watch out as there are more casinos than gas stations.

Good Day
