What is the dumbest part of the TCH?
Thanks Chris, unfortunately, it's not Toyota's fault, some one ran a red and creamed me. You can see more here.
Damage: $15K (evidently, total loss is 70%)
I actually pick up the car tomorrow! 9 weeks.

I actually pick up the car tomorrow! 9 weeks.Every time I see a ****-poor driver (like ones running red lights) I say to myself, eventually that persons insurance rates will go sky high and they won't be able to afford to drive. Then I remember that an idiot like that will probably drive without insurance. Fooey.
Some congressperson will claim that this guy is being charged 'predatory auto insurance' and demand that everyone pay the same low rates (remember, we are a socialist country).
They'll also say that his rates are too high because of hedge funds and speculators.
Congress passes the Auto Insurance Equity Act of 2009 and auto insurance is provided free of charge for anyone making under $30,000 per year.
etc.
I have been struggling to keep my dumb remarks out of this dumb thread, but I just can't hold out any longer.
What makes me chime in now is that I simply can't believe that the ECO switch location (as dumb as that is) beats out all other possibilities COMBINED !!!
Come on now, with so many juicy dumb things to choose from, I know we can do better. So, I've decided to post my 25 dumbest things about the TCH.
Here we go............
From Smilin' Jack's list of the 25 dumbest things about the TCH:
Number 25: The Canadian TCH has a light switch position labeled, "OFF" but it does not turn all of the lights off. It leaves the DRL's on.
Don't get me wrong, im not complaining about the fact that the DRL's must stay on when running with the other lights off - only with the mis-labeling.
Why ids this dumb? Because it's incorrect, careless, bad Human Factors Engineering and misleading. But most of all because it's so easily corrected. Yh position should be labeled, "DRL only"

For your consideration...
- If the car is on, in park and the door is open (here there is a risk that the driver is not aware that they left the car while it's still on) there is no beeping. I'd think a beep every three seconds while the door is open as a reminder makes sense.
- If the door is closed and no one is sitting in the driver's seat (it knows, since it gives a seat belt warning when it senses weight) the car should beep like crazy or the horn should go off and the lights should flash (since in this case the driver obviously forgot the car is on). You get a few beeps, that's it.
- If you turn off the car and leave the key in the car and close the door, you get a few beeps. I guess they think three is enough for you to understand that you forgot your key.
- However, if you open the car a split second before the car is completely turned off, it beeps and wont stop until you close the door. Apparently, it wants you to know that the car is off and the door is open!!!!! Uh, what's the risk here?
Can anyone figure out the logic here?
I'll add in another entry to the list....
I am too tall to comfortably fit in the moonroof version and too cheap to pay for NAV, so I got the non-moonroof/non-NAV car. I had to add 'dealer leather'. This car comes with a power driver's seat...and a non-power passenger seat. What's the logic here? Either consumer wants power seats or not (to presumably save a few bucks). Why have one power and one not?

Didn't hear any beeps although I am sure they sounded.
OK, I've adjusted my asbestos undergarments to prepare for the flames but here goes... after reading through these couple of threads I am beginning to wonder if there shouldn't be a "Driver" category in the poll of "What is the dumbest part of the TCH".
Come on people this is a car not your mother. At some point you have to take some responsibility for your machine. Read your user manual to become familiar with the way your car works and stop expecting the car or engineers to figure out all the possible different ways different people might figure out how to defeat the car's systems.

The problem with building an idiot-proof system is we're always coming up with new and bigger idiots.
Guys, Thanks for your interest.
Sooty:
Yes, others may see it differently, but I' am, in fact going in order from No. 25, the least dumb, to no.1, the most dumb, as i see them.
Haroldo:
Yes, and No.
Yes, the lack of good warning for leaving the car "on" definitely fits into my list. To see how, and at what rank, stay tuned.
No, I' am well under 6 ft tall, so I fit just fine under my moonroof, and the headroom issue did not occur to me.
