Default warranty-15 years, 150,000 mi

I live in California and the warranty for the hybrid system is 15 years or 150,000 mi and I'm looking to purchase the car in another state that has a lesser warranty. I beleive it's 8 years or 100,000 in that state, but I'm going to have it shipped to me. Do I have the 8/100 warranty from that state or will I have the 15/150 here in California when I register it at the DMV? I appreciate any insight because I don't want to give up such a great warranty.

Just be sure that the vehicle meets CA emission requirements before you buy out of state. If it does not meet CA emission std's you may not be able to register the car. Same situation exists here in MA. PZEV vs ULEV etc... MA requires hybrids to be PZEV rated.

Thanks for the help Ralph, but how do I find out if the car that I'm buying in another state meets the CA requirements? I'm not sure if registering the car in CA is the problem, but the fact that it may not be as clean burning and thus has a lesser Warranty. I'm sure there has to be owners out there that can answer this question. Has anyone bought one in another state and then brought it back to CA and had the the PZEV warranty?

Thanks

found this article in the LA Times on-line

Does it take AA or AAA batteries?
For many of us, the inner workings of a hybrid vehicle are shrouded in great mystery. So here's a primer to help you get a clue.

quote from article

"The national warranty on the Camry's hybrid components is eight years or 100,000 miles, except in California and a few Northeastern states, where the warranty is 15 years/150,000 miles. The exception is the battery, which is warranted in California for 10 years and 100,000 miles."

Does anyone know what northeastern states qualify for the longer warranty?

Thanks for the article Gator56. I've called the Toyota customer service line multiple times and each time I get a different answer. Toyota doesn't even know their own warranty!!! I still don't even know if I can buy a Camry in anorher state, then bring it back to CA and get the 15/150,000 warranty. Nothing I've read or heard thus far has mentioned this scenario and its getting frustrating because I can't get any straight answers from Toyota no less! Thanks for the help.

It goes by where the vehicle is titled and registered so if you buy it from another state and bring it to CA you’ll be ok so long as it was built in Japan.

I was told by a few dealers that all TCH's being built in Japan are coming to the US with the "FE" 50 State option so if you live in CA, NJ, NY, a few others you will have the 15/150 federal emissions warranty. More info on this subject can be found in some other threads on this board. Who knows what’s going to happen once they start building them here in the US. There are two EPA listings for the TCH so Its likely there may be a higher HP less clean version built in Kentucky.

Just an FYI, I believe that repairs under the federal warranty are prorated not 100% free, someone correct me if I’m wrong but I recall a friend getting a catalytic converter replaced on a GMC Jimmy that was 7 years old and still under the federal emissions warranty and I believe he had to pay for some part of the bill.
