Uh-oh. Pacifica is really hilly. You may want to read this recent set of threads from this guy in SF who didn't understand why he wasn't seeing the 40mpg that others were getting. It is my personal opinion that he didn't understand what he was buying. I hope you made a more educated decision than he did before buying your car.

B.T.W. I'm in Gilroy so we aren't too far from each other!

Pacifica huh! I grew up right across the Bay (east bay). I am a former lead foot too...you have to have a lead foot when living in the Bay LOL. Enjoy the car...

Hi!
Oops guess I forgot to mention the hours that I spent doing research on the TCH and the Prius in particular! LOL! Actually I did see those threads and told myself, the car has to have more power than my beloved 91 Previa (RIP) did. And it definitely has. We actually tested over 20 vehicles on hills and was surprised at how many of the econoboxes didn't do well on hills and more surprisingly didn't get that great on the mileage.

Was just over the hill this afternoon and am holding steady at 34.7, and I am still on the first tank....

And yes, I totally agree with the poster that lifting the foot of the gas pedal makes a big difference in my mileage so far....

One think that we discovered last week that is annoying.... The windshield fogs up on the inside if you are sitting in the car waiting for someone. Even while we were out driving later that night, it kept fogging up. Luckily the defogger works great! Any suggestions on how to fix that problem?

Thanks!

Karen

Turn the fan on with the recirculate off. It probably wouldn't hurt to have the A/C on too...

You could try moving to AZ! Sorry, couldn't resist! We NEVER get fogged up windows...Or fog outside, for that matter!

'detonate'??? You may be thinking of hydrogen.

That darned Hindenberg incident 80 years ago in New Jersey really scarred the psyche of mankind.

Given that the atmosphere we breathe is >70% nitrogen, we'd be in a world of hurt if it was combustible..... or explosive.

Nitrogen is one of those things that might help a little bit and with the cost of gas, every little bit helps. I'm thinking of buying a bottle and regulator for my garage soon.

Even worse, a popular theory is that the problem was not the hydrogen gas, but the material the skin was made of!
