I ended up examining the iso image of the non hybrid dvd with ImgBurn under Windows XP (running as a virtual machine in VMWare Fusion), and noted what kind of filesystem it used. It was ISO9660 + Joliet + UDF, UDF revision 1.02.

So I then tried writing files (swapping out the firmware file for the 5.1 version) to a DVD using ImgBurn and under the Options tab, I chose the options mentioned above. This resulted in a successful burn that was recognized by the Nav system on my Camry.

I ended up using ImgBurn because I didn't know how to be sure what settings Toast was using on the Mac.

Maybe this will help those of you struggling with getting this to work.

Good luck!
I dont get what you're saying (parts highlighted in bold)

This is what I have when I go to change volume

My file sys already has that information but still doesnt work

I used the "Write files/folders to disk" option in ImgBurn (this may also be called "Build"). I wasn't starting with an image (like you appear to be). I had all the files and folders of the disk image that I originally downloaded (extracted to my HDD), and I replaced the "Loading.kwi" file with the older one that still allows the override function.

When you use the above method, there is a pane on the right with several tabs. The third tab is called "Options".

I noticed in your screenshots, it doesn't say ISO9660, Joliet, UDF...(Joliet is missing). I don't know if that is the problem or not...

Hope that helps...

One hint I remember from trying to do this several years ago, make sure that the booktype is set to DVD-ROM when you burn the disk.

I think I used 51FIRM81DATA as the label (all of them). Does that work for you?

If you already have the v6 5.1kwi do you have to pull the fuse or is this only necessary the first time you load with the 5.1 kwi?

You only need to pull the fuse when you need to DOWNGRADE the firmware that was loaded onto your Nav system. So if your Nav system has ever been loaded with a 6.1 or 7.1 or 8.1 Nav DVD, pulling the fuse will force the Nav system to load whatever firmware is on the DVD in the drive at the time of the fuse pull.

Ok so since I already have an older modified version then I don't need to do that. So it will just read the updated maps then. Thanks...it's been a long day.

Question Re: Nav DVD ver.8.1 gen5

Does this work for the Prius also? I have an '07 and have buttons for "menu" and "audio" on the sides of the display. This sounds like the selections are all from the display.

Thx.
