Mine are the Bridgestones. How can I find out what their rating is?

Which model are they? I got my info off the Michelin website - I'm sure Bridgestone will have the same.

In fact, it does. The Bridgestone ER30 are also V rated.

I am not sure where the governor kicks in, but I could swear I have had it over 125.

I thought I was at 130 when the car started hitting the "wall".

Now my tundra pulls like a freight train until the governor kicks in around 110. if it did not have a govenor, I am sure it would hit 140.

The fastest I have been in a car was 160 in a Mustang Cobra. Would have gone faster, but again, the manufacturers think they know how fast you should be allowed to go in acar.

I don't understand why they limit the top speed of any vehicle.

If you are speeding, then you are speeding. In my book it does not really matter by how much. You are still breaking the law, and I don't think it is the manufacturer's responsibilty to keep us from doing dumb things.

And that even includes exceeding the speed rating of the tires.

Like exceeding the speed rating for a few seconds will result in a tire failure.

In my TCH up to 93 miles per hour coasting in drive down the side of a mountain. The highway was just above the foothills and then went straight out into the desert.

My other going fast was in my '57 Chevy. This was back in 1960 I built my own Corvette engine with fuel injection pistons for higher compression. I used two 4-barrel carb's up top. I would estimate over 325 hp. One day I had golden esso gas (108 octane) when the engine was rather new. I was on a lonely highway that morning with no cars in site. I opened it up to see what it would do. I remember the speedometer was at 5000 rpm at 120 miles per hour which was pegged. I then watched the tachometer climb from 5000 to near 6000 before leveling out. I was in the center of the highway looking way ahead for any oncoming traffic. I remember at whatever speed, maybe 140/150 miles per hour the road sure seemed very narrow. I had no idea that engine would go that fast.

I removed the powerglide and put in a manual transmission. I left the stock 3:36 ratio rear end in the car. I remember it would run 100 in second gear due to the high rear end which was like a overdrive.

I started drag racing after that with a more pro drag racing engine and a 5:57 rear end and slicks. I set records with both the AHRA and NHRA sanctioning bodies for their D/Gas class. It was fun, lots of trophy's but little money. I could have bought a house for the money I had in tied up in that car. A young man has to learn though.

I agree, but this mindset is very rare these days. Everybody wants to blame somebody else. That's why there are warning stickers on lawn mowers not to reach under them while they're running. Somebody who is injured by a car going an excessive speed could sue the driver but wouldn't get much, so would also file suit against the manufacturer, who has much deeper pockets.

Personal responsibility is a thing of the past.

sivilyar - That is really fast. Toyota builds their engines with close tolerances. Check your car manual with the new car on the break in procedure. My 2007 was not completely broke in till around 8000 miles. Basic break in was about 3500 miles. I could tell by watching the increase in my gas mileage.

I'm sure you will really enjoy your new '09 ride.

As long as you're heading -away- from them. With the security issues, I would imagine that if you were heading -towards- them their response might be quite different.

ehem... A 98 Gsxr 750 will not reach 185. check your gearing and correct your speedo. I have road raced for over 20 years and my last race bike was a 06 ZX10R motor worked blue printed and balanced. with the gov. removed and The fastest I have been. (corrected time with a laser gun) is 187mph. and at that speed you cannot and will not look at your speedo to see how fast you are going. Sorry to pop your bubble.

ps my GPS shows corrected speed and when my 09 shows 65mph its corrected to 61mph
