Default City of Chicago to Buy 300 More Toyota Hybrids

It looks like my hometown is signing on for another 100 each of the Prius, Camry and Highlander. Not too shabby.

Interesting. Our city doesn't have any I think. However, different gov't departments use Priuses and of course our infamous cabs are Priuses (and some are TCHs).

Rant on...Preaching to choir...

The line about "if cost rules the day" bothers me quite a bit. I say this because that line is the number one problem with our government and they fail to see that the cost paid today is a fraction of the cost paid by our children if we continue to pollute the environment (however, I do not have kids).

This is simple environmental economics. The cost to abate the pollution before the fact has got to be far cheaper than to clean up the mess later. The issue lies in that we often only look at dollar amount now and don't try to quantify the cost (or dollar amount) of future problems (clean up, health, suffering, intangibles).

(Please note, I have no hard numbers. I just believe governments have plenty of money they waste, maybe they can waste some on something that might be good.)

End of rant... :-D

The best part was the talk of Mayor Dailey considering getting rid of his LTC for a hybrid. I don't think his ego would fit in a prius

The City of Houst has many hybrids. I think just about all vehicle they buy no a days is a hybrid if there is a hybrid made in that style.
