Default Additional gauges?

I have the non-Nav TCH so I don't have the extra FE meters that the people with Nav have. I was looking around and ran across a mention of this OBDII gauge system. http://www.scangauge.com/features/

For me it would add the RPM, Trip MPG (as a full value instead of just 25-42), Fuel Rate (it would be interesing to see what it's really doing when the instant MPG on the dash is at 60), and a Scan Tool.

Is anyone familiar with this device or similar/better ones?

Default Re: Additional gauges?

I've been using a ScanGauge for the better part of six months in my conventional vehicle (the old, ugly version rather than the new, sleeker version.) It has a few quirks but I do find it to be incredibly useful. The ability to track fuel economy trip by trip and over the course of a tank or day has been a great tool to help my driving. I also keep it right on top of the dash so that I can keep track of my car's vitals (I usually use instant MPG, water temp, engine load, and system voltage).

On the quirky side, mine does seem to have a problem with especially hot weather. It's not an issue if I keep the sun shade up while parked, but if I forget the display can temporarily deactivate. That's typical of LCDs, though, and it always comes back as soon as the cabin temp gets down to reasonable levels. I would say it's well worth the price. I've been keeping track of mileage, and I have already saved more money on gasoline by learning from it than the purchase price.

As far as alternatives, I'm not aware of any. The ScanGauge seems to be one of a kind. And yes, it will work just fine in a hybrid with the engine turning on and off. There's a setting for it, and you will get the fuel economy calculations dialed in by calibrating over the course of a tank or two.
