Default Oscars 'Red Carpet - Green Cars' Hybrid Car Drive-Up

Global Green USA Campaign Promotes Energy Independence, Smart Solutions to
Climate Change Through Stars Arriving at Academy Awards in Fuel-Efficient Cars

Who: Nominees Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman, Morgan Freeman, and presenters Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim Robbins, Orlando Bloom, Robin Williams, Salma Hayek, and Penelope Cruz among others.

What: Given the current state of global affairs and increasing threat of climate change, some of the biggest names in Hollywood are planning to arrive at the Academy Awards in fuel-efficient Toyota Prius hybrids instead of gas-guzzling limos. The celebrities want to demonstrate how each of us can take a simple yet powerful step to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce air pollution, and stem climate change.

Salma Hayek, actor, and presenter at this year's Awards says: "With global warming threatening us all, driving a fuel efficient car like a hybrid is something that everybody can do to protect our planet. I am proud to do my part: I personally own and drive a hybrid car. And I love it!"

Where/When: 77th Annual Academy Awards,
Sunday, February 27th,
Kodak Theater, Hollywood

That makes me sick. I'm tired of airhead actors and celebrities acting like they are better than the rest of the world and seeming as if they are somehow of superior intellect than the rest of us. Come on, all they do is recite lines with emotion and body movement. No wonder awards shows are loosing viewership.

Maybe that will be my only rant today.

Well, I have mixed feelings concerning this. I think that their using their influence to the benefit of mankind is a good thing, but it is just as easily using their influence to the downfall of mankind, as well. How many people are famous for being famous, degrading social culture and wellbeing? Paris Hilton, Michael Moore...

Maybe actors can afford hybrid cars but I don't think its something "everyone can do." How much are used hybrids? I doubt you can get one for less than $14K. I'm not sure about that since I don't know how much a used insight cots. But my guess is that most people cant afford the luxury of a hybrid vehicle.

To an actor making 6 or 7 figures 20K isn't a lot for a car but to joe average that makes <100K it is a major hit to the pocket book.

Default Used hybrids on the increase worldwide

Actually, used Prius cars are available elsewhere in the world for lower prices. We in the states have so few of them (relative to the total number of used cars) in comparison, that it is hard (but not impossible) to find one for under $14K.

So my guess is that now, with the right deal, a smart, diligent shopper could find a hybrid from under $14K in the USA.....

In fact, at cars.com, I just now searched and found 13 Civic Hybrids under $14,000 across the USA, and 4 Priuses...

Well for me, I thought I could not afford a hybrid at $20,000, I was looking in the $14 - 16 K range but when I factored in the savings in gas, it will actually cost me less in the long run than my previous car. But also for me I drive a whole lot and get reimbursed for mileage. I do at least 100 miles a day sometimes 200 and get between $20- $40 a day for mileage, so with me spending less on gas and still getting the same reimbursment, it works out for me. I know for a lot of people this isn't the case. And I think over the next few years most people will be able to afford a hybrid.

What I hate is actors involved with politics.

"I play president on TV so I know best" attitudes.

And then the dumb masses follow them.

I don't know about that. If this previous election season is any indication, the general public, especially in the heartland, pretty much thumbed their nose at the Hollywood eliete with regard to who got re-elected. I don't think the guy who plays the president on TV, or any of his cronies, expected that to happen.

From Conan O'Brian, "I'm John Kerrrry, and I'm watching Judge Juuuuuudy." You don't know how happy that makes me.
