Is it a CVT? I've had that whirrrrrrr sound on my HCH before, I only remember it on light acceleration though. Hopefully the car will remain trouble free. Good Luck.

If you have a CVT, then 10mph sounds about right. If it's a 5-speed, then you should be able to get the car into Auto-Stop at about 19mph.

My car is a MT. It's been going into auto-stop mode at about 20-10mph now, I noticed.
Thanks everyone! I hope my car will remain trouble-free too.

Honestly, get rid of the car while you still can get a decent penny for it, or at very least make sure you keep impecable notes incase you need to lemon law it later

Well, my Honda Civic is running strong at over 180k miles. My mom's Civic would have lasted for more than 180k if my mom knew to look at the temp gauge while driving- she had no idea she couldn't drive an overheating vehicle (the car was massively overheating and she didn't stop until she heard a loud bang and saw smoke....). I just met a guy with an Insight locally- he has over 200k on his odometer and he loves his Insight. His brother also has an Insight with high odometer miles too. Every company is going to have lemons and problems. Besides, I consider the Insight to be an exotic vehicle- except instead of being tuned for power and speed, it's tuned for gas mileage. I also drive it in such a way that saves gas mileage, not like a sports car- I drive it appropriately for the purpose it was made for. I save about 300 dollars a month in gas thanks to my lil' trooper.

you got stuck with a lemon, Honda sucks- and too bad you don't have laws to protect you.

If that "whirrrrr"ing sound could be described as the sound a small turbine would make when spooling up, that's normal.

On a cool morning, with little or no traffice to speak of, turn OFF the radio and/or tape/CD player and listen to your little Insight "sing" as she goes down the road. They are a rather pleasent little vehicle to drive.

Hope this helps.

Fred :-)

My 5 spd 2000 insight has 180,000 miles on it with no problems and just needed a new battery which Honda replaced for free ! Talk about support! Ted
