I thought I should mention in this thread that I put the intake mod back.
I am liking it this time. :-)
I ordered some tubing to make the coupling more secure. I don't like the
filter clamped onto a rubber hose as a long-term solution.
I ordered stainless 2 3/8" tubing from www.classictube.com,
they cut it to 4" for me, but charged me for a full foot,
about $20 total including shipping.
Hope that is the right size, will let y'all know if it works.

No way to know until somebody tries it.
It is really easy on the HCH-I, if the air-box assembly and
rubber hose to the engine is similar on the HCH-II then
it will be about the same.
If things are different then you might be into custom intake
work and that would not be so easy.
One guy here did it on his insight, so I am guessing that
it will probably work.
The filter is about $30, so not much risk to experiment
and find out.

I refueled on the way home today. Best tank ever!!! 50.3 for 537.3 miles. I am so proud of myself. I controlled my speed on the way home. Didn't take that uphill like the devil was chasing me. Also best trip home ever at 57.3. :-)
