wstiefer,

If you are talking about the 70-1722 (Female) and 71-1722 (male), then be very careful. Metra, in their infinite wisdom, decided that we do not need all the wires on the 70-1722 and left off all of the navigation specific wires, even though the 71-1722 has all of the wires on it. I installed a Parrot Bluetooth kit over the weekend and now my Navigation system does not work correctly as the additional wires are not hooked up. I am waiting for Metra to mail me the small and large pins in the connector so I can terminate the additional wires from the 71-1722 with the pins and then push them into the 70-1722 connector. The 70-1722 will only work for you if you want to put in a simple aftermarket radio with no additional functions.

Freaking wonderful! I have been waiting for 2-3 months for the wire harness to come available. I am looking at the color codes and you are absolutely right! UGGHH!! Do you have a contact at Metra that is helping you? Maybe I can call the same person to save me some heartache.

Thanks for the heads up!

EKL (Eric),

I have read all your messages on this forum and cannot say how excited I am. I bought the HCH 2006 without the NAVI ..hoping to install the Pioneer AVIC -Z1. I ran into a couple of problems with my installer. First, he mentioned that the Metra had a mounting kit for the AVIC-Z1, but did not have a digital interface kit for the climate control (don't know what he is referring to) and hence the AVIC-Z1 cannot be mounted. The second problem with the AVIC-Z1 ( I inspected an install in a Ford 150 truck), is that when you receive a phone call, it does not mute the music, but lowers the volume, which does not work for me. It looks like you have cracked the problem with your professional installer. I live in Southern California, and could not help notice that your address mentions that you are in Southern California too..Any chance you can refer me to your installer and I can take the guesswork out of my install.

Also, I have just had my Civic for 1 month, and I never get beyond 40 mpg, and I drive from the South Bay to Orange county (45 miles on the freeway) and it does not inch over 40 mpg. I have 1200 miles on my HCHII.. maybe I need to wait for some more miles to get the kind of mileage I see others are getting on this forum?

Sound like your installer don't know what he is talking about. Try SunStar Stereo and Alarm in Rosemead (626-572-8958). You can ask for Brian or Corine. By the way don't buy the Metra kit, just buy the OEM navi mount from the dealer and have SunStar custom mount it for you. It will look OEM. That's how I redid my installation. Now I have to sell my used Metra kit which I paid $70 for it. Also you should get the Pac-Audio kit for the OEM streeing wheel control and since you are paying top $$$$$ for the Z1 you should replace all the OEM speakers and add a nice 4 channels amp with your system. (SunStar sell some of the best speaker for car!!! ie SEAS Lotus or DYNAUDIO. I replaced my OEM speakers with helix speakers and amp. Now I am happy!!!

MPG: When I drive local I only able to get 33-35mpg, now I drive between downtown LA and San Gabriel on the HOV lane my mpg is about 36-39mpg. My last two trips to SFO ave about 41-43 mpg. I drive my HCH like a car and I don't like to coast.

Good luck.

EKL,

Thanks for the telephone numbers of your installer. Thanks for reading my mind. I will definitely look at the 4 channel amp and look at replacing the speakers. What brand of amp have you installed?

Also, I dont quite remember, but is there a wiring kit out for this installation, i.e. the installer does not have to cut and splice into the OEM wiring. One last question, do you happen to have the part # of the OEM Navigation mounting kit? I have a buddy that works for Honda and may be able to get it at employee prices if I can give him the part #

Thanks in advance..cant wait to do the install.

Ujj,

I have the entry level of Helix Amp (made by Brax!) but it sound so much better than the build-in power of the Pioneer D2's. I didn't buy any wiring kit. Sorry I don't have the part number for the Honda's Navi Dash. It should cost about $44, make sure you also buy the navi mounting rail in the back of the Navi dash too or just call the Jose (installer @ SunStar).

One last thing Eric. My car is in the shop with Jose at Sunstar. Where did you mount your mike for the Parrot? Did you mount it in front of the steering wheel or on the sun visor?

My mic. was mounted on the left hand side of the sun visor, right on the top edge of the side curtain airbags.

When you finish the installation, post us some pictures. Did you get any Amp and Speakers?
