Yeah, redlining still happens in Michigan. God forbid you live IN Detroit. Your rates will be astronomical (which is why I don't know anyone that lives in Detroit and pays for insurance. Illlegal, sure, but I've seen several accidents where the drivers just drive off even though their brand new SUV just got some damage). I think you might be right on about the credit score too. I found out that my credit report was wrong again and I just got someone else's bankruptcy and defaulted accounts off (this is another pet peeve of mine). Still need to call Chris about a lower rate too.

i recently checked out some quotes at http://www.oneshopinsurance.com they have a couple of known companies here. so it's cool. actually there are things that we all have to consider. Age is a major consideration. Old vehicles pay a higher premium than new ones. The type and model of the vehicle has a major role also. When buying car/auto insurance online, there are sites that provide automated tools. They’re using an auto coverage analyzer where you have to answer a few question about your financial standing, automobile condition, etc. From this information it will generate what category of coverage you need.

I'm tickled pink with my rates. This brand new car with all the trimmings was $4 less per month than the previous car (1995 with the same coverage) or about $800 a year. That was a funny conversation with the Insurance folks - they were hoping it wasn't too high for me and I was saving money AND had a new car. Neato.

I pay 1,100 per year, 500 deductable 100K/300K for an 05HCH with a squeeky clean record in boston burbs, highest safety rating. Some folks in boston proper pay upwards of 2,000 to 4,000 per year depending on the neighborhood... "highway robbery" as we have no open market competition in MA with state setting the rates.
