We have fairly similar situations. Insured by AAA, although I'm in CA. I have a 2006 HCH and a 2003 Accord. Clean driving records for both of us. We're paying $1000/yr for the HCH and $727/yr for the Accord.

I believe when you have multiple cars you get a discount for all cars, not just the second one. The rate also depends on the distance you drive annually and whether you use the car to commute to work. Our Accord is a very low mileage non-commute car. It also depends on the coverage amounts you choose for bodily injury, uninsured motorist, and property damage, and your deductibles for collision and comprehensive. Finally I get a discount because our home is also insured by AAA.

It's really hard to get an accurate comparison.

Thanks Tim, I'll mark down his number and give him a call this week. I just switched to Amica, but I'm still paying a little over $1800/yr for 50/100 w/ no deductible. I'll see what Chris can do for me.

Well, thought I'd post what I *was* paying with MetLife. $288/mo for a 98 Expedition driven 0 miles/day (selling it and it was like 7 bucks a month extra on Amica), and the HCHII driven 25 miles/day. Calculate that out @ 12 mos. and you get $3456/yr. Absolutely frickin ridiculous. I'm so sick of these rates in MI. I might play around with some of the calculators later this week to see what my rates would be in other cities.

P.S. Anyone wanna buy a used Expedition?

I called Travelers today and they have a special deal for Hybrids. My insurance with Am Fam was $129/mo with the minimums (they misquoted me at first) and $500 ded.

Travelers is $88/month better than the minimums with $500 ded.

Give them a call or check out their web-site.

I'm with Geico, and I'm paying $2,515/year for my 06 HCHII! I was totally dismismay when I signed up for my insurance at the dealership, but then again I live in NJ and I did have an accident not even a year ago . The crazy thing is that I was paying $1,200 previously for an Audi A4... how it doubles for going from a totally unreliable luxury car to a Civic hybrid (even with a single accident) is beyond me!

Ocean,
my bet is that the Civic Hybrid rates are higher because they rechecked DMV records when you switched to the Civic. I bet if you NOW got a quote for your old Audi A4, the premiums would be much higher than the $1200 you were paying previously.

I'm in Michigan, too - $750/6mo for '03 Prius + '05 Prius.

Your credit score can play a big part in how much you pay - folks with bad credit are supposedly bad insurance risks, as well. Does anyone know whether insurance 'redlining' is still legal? Live in the 'wrong' neighborhood, pay more? I think not, but not sure I'm remembering correctly.

Here's my scenario. HCH II, w/ 100/50 coverage. Clean driving record. 29 yr old male in Michigan. Quotes have been ranging between $1675 annually (which is what I currently have) to $2400 / 6 months. My previous carrier had me at $2100 / 6 months and i dropped them recently.

I was paying around $400/month for my Expedition.

Thanks,

BP
I'm paying $897 a year for my '06 Civic Hybrid and $975 a year for my '05 Accord EX-V6. We both have clean driving records and carry 100/50 (higher than minimum coverage) along with pretty low deductibles - $250 comp. and $500 collision. I think our rates may be slightly high because we live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas metro area. I will tell you this...I was paying more for my '01 Accord EX-V6 than I do for my new Civic Hybrid!
