Your AC may be on, and you don't know it
j/k. You sort of have to take the FE hit, you could die at those temps... I bet you can easily make it up in the winter though, while my car's FE is dying from the cold...

You may have noticed that when you turn on the windshield defroster, by default, the a/c will run to provide de-humidified air to the windshield. You really want a solution, huh Kenny? This isn't it, but what I've been doing is never turning my climate control system off. When I turn the car back on, it resumes on whatever settings I had before I turned it off, which was just fan, as usual. If for some reason the fan is making me cold, I just turn it down to the lowest setting. I rarely turn my system all the way off. This way I never have to fiddle with the A/C off button. A full fix would be nice, however.
