Well, aren't I glad I got the HondaCare when I bought my HCHII 4 years ago...figured a new model could have a few problems. Nothing for 3 years/38K, but in the last year I have had 3 problems, most recently the fuel sensor with obligatory software update at 50K miles. I figure my repairs SINCE the 3 year mark would have cost me over $1200. I paid $850 for the 6 yr/100,000 HondaCare. If this continues I will likely dump it at the 6 year mark. If I wanted that much wrong at that low mileage I could have kept my Volvo. And apparently it took several calls from my repair shop to HondaCare to get them to cover the software update that I only needed because they replaced the sensor. My dealer, Honda of Frontenac, has been wonderful, but this Civic has been far less reliable than my '82 versions.

Henry, that's a fascinating project. Congrats! What was the net effect of your brave endeavor in fuel economy and performance? How much did you invest in the hybrid conversion?

I have a 2007 HCHII with 125k miles. Recently, the check engine, IMA and battery lights came on. Took it to Roberts Honda in Downingtown PA and they told me that the motor rotor position sensor is bad. It will cost $1300, $300 for the part and $1000 to replace due to the removal of the CVT. I am driving a loaner while waiting for them to replace the MPS. Questions: does this cost seem reasonable and would this be covered under anything outside of the extended warranty? Thanks.

This was a known 2007 problem. My sensor failed at 3000 miles and was replaced under warranty. You may have been one of the lucky ones as you said it took 125K miles. Seems to me that Honda would replace it for free because it was a known problem but needed to fail first. It just took longer for yours. I would call the Honda District Rep and ask him . Seems like dealers are all over the place when it comes to service.
The other question to ask is .....Is your sensor one from the original batch that was bad ? (My understanding is that Honda bought this part from a vendor....but now Honda manufactures it themselves). If yours is not from the bad batch then it might be a legitimate failure and you are out of luck. But keep asking questions and talk to the Honda people... not the dealer. Honda is known for customer service but every dealer has his own opinion.
Hope this helped .....

Chris
