I'd stick with between 4300K and 5500K. Once you go above 5500K you are losing visible light. They might look cooler but it's not helping you see at night.

Here is some info on color temps

Take those images with a grain of salt. They will appear differently on different monitors, but you get the idea of the spectrum. orange, yellow, white, blue, purple

Thanks, Gary, I will get 6000k. I always look to your posts for info like this.

No problem, if you have options it is always better to stay between 4000K and 5000K. Mainly because these temps will age after about half their useful life and end up shifting to more of a 6000K+ color temp. Going with higher temps will initially give you a blue tint but as they age you get into more of a purple tint which isn't good at all for visibility.

Question Re: MY DIY HID headlight install

I am a new owner of a Hybrid and would love to upgrade my lights to HID. But could someone give me an update on the HIDs?
1. Problems? (Too High AMPS, VOLTS)
2. Quality of product? (Which Brands)
3. Find any other concerns for having HID with an Hybrid?
4. Do we know if it will void my 6 year 120k mile warranty?
Thank for your help!
Jeremy

Cool Re: MY DIY HID headlight install

I asked the seller (Kassabian9898) on ebay the normal AMP load on the system with the HIDs. He said that the normal AMP load is 3.2 amps and voltage is 9-16 volts. These should be well in the normal range for the lights. With this information I don’t feel we should see any wiring or harness melting problems over the long term.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Also, Gary installed his HIDs in Nov 2006 and has had NO issues as of to date.

Ordered these last Friday and got them on Tuesday from the same place as Orient Express - super fast service! I paid $141 w/insurance and shipping.

I'll post up a reply tomorrow on performance as I just installed them today and will be driving in the dark for the first time tonight after work.

I'm looking at the kit that OE recommended on ebay. For $141.00 I don't think you could go wrong! And it looks like replacement bulbs are only $35 + shipping.

My question(s)...
1) Would it be possible to [wire] both the low beams (9006 HB4) AND the high beams (9005 HB3) or do you think there would not be enough room to mount 4 ballasts (or power to run them... not like they both run at the same time)? If I order 2 kits I can save $16 shipping!

2) Also, what is the difference in the 35W and the 50W kits (I know someone is just going to be a smarta$$ and going to say "15W")? Is the 50W brighter than the 35W?

3) I also have an 07 Honda Pilot - the low beams are H11-55W (according to Sylvania's website). Does this mean I would need to get the 50W for the Pilot or would the 35W do fine?

No, HID lamps for your HCHII are only for the low beams. The high beam circuit also has the DRL circuit, which makes it incompatible with HID lamps

2) Also, what is the difference in the 35W and the 50W kits

Stay with the 35W ballasts. the 50W kits have startup current loads that are in excess of the capacity of the lighting wiring circuit in your HCHII

3) I also have an 07 Honda Pilot - the low beams are H11-55W

Same answer as 2
