New Recall 03-05 HCH July 2007

Re: New Recall 03-05 HCH July 2007
i was told it would fix the problem with my IMA doing really heavy discharges for no reason, and the assist coming on seemingly all the time. that happened after the first update i had done a couple of weeks prior to the current one. it seems to have worked, even with some heavy uphills on a trip home from out of town last weekend, which really drained the IMA, it came back up pretty rapidly.

I'm going to have to bring mine in maybe friday for the update and maybe to have them fix a boot that is torn, and maybe an oil change. I actually look forward to seeing the FCD read lower. I'm sick of calculating in my head my actualy mileage by taking what is displayed and subtracting 10%.

My display readings were never that consistent. Sometimes above, sometimes below, and by varying amounts. If I had known they were going to change the way it works I would have waited a while to do the recall work. I just changed tires and I have been trying to alter as few variables as possible to be sure I understood the true impact of the tire change.

I had mine done and I was thinking it was the heat, since my mileage which is usually in thr 46-48 range with the A/C on is now in the 37-38 range. When I fill up next, it will be the real test.

Hi,
I just bought a used 2003 civic hybrid, how do should I know if I have to do this recall or not?
I opened a account on the owner link from Honda and it says the car doesn't need any recall, does this mean I don't have to do this recall?
Thank you

It wasn't really a "recall", but a "Software Update". I'd take the car into a Honda dealer, and ask them to check. Heck, it's probably worth the 1hr labor they may, or may not charge.

Re: New Recall 03-05 HCH July 2007
Did this update do anything about the consistent over estimate of mpg given by the FCD? After over 2 years with my 2003 HCH I, I can say that my dispaly is at least 5-10% high consistently. I have tracked real mileage but foolishly didn't record the FCD each time so I can't give an accurate number for the over estimate but I know that my real calculations are never closer than 2 mpg (and usually 4 mpg) to the displayed mileage.
Sometime ago I heard a story about Honda increasing the mileage limit on the warranty for this era of Civics because the odometer was "fast" (i.e., indicated more miles driven than actual). What I didn't catch was whether this included the hybrids. If so, that would explain the over estimate of mpg on the display (although you'd think a software update could fix that). Anyone heard anything about this?
