Before you spend any more $, I'd blink the codes:

The codes aren't identical between the insight and the HCH1, but the process is the same. This will help you isolate if the P1449 is related to cell failure or a temperature issue.

ok because the wrecking yard I bought the battery from said he can sell me the whole entire half of the system that’s next to the battery with all the modules and computers for 350. Not sure if that’s worth it.

If you need it, it's worth it. If you don't need it, it's a waste of money. All codes point to hybrid battery and cat at this point.

I'd ask for your money back from the salvage yard. They sold you a bad battery.

he said he won’t give money back but he will exchange battery. So essentially I’ll have to keep swapping them until a good one. Also gotta do the paperclip jumper tomorrow and let you know what I come up with

ok did the paperclip jumper and I only got 1 code back from it. 7 slow blinks then 3 faster blinks, long pause and repeated 2 more times. Then I turned key off.

I looked at the pages that were attached to the link you sent me and it says something about cells overheated. Which confuses me since I just put this battery in.

Per my post, those codes are applicable to the G1 Insight.

For HCH1 blink 73 is:

P1449 Battery Cell Overheating on 2003 model
P1432 Battery Cell Overheating on 2004-2005 model

This typically means there is a fault in the PTC circuit that's supposed to detect if ANY of the 120 cells overheat. It doesn't necessarily mean the battery is overheated.

Sometime in the 2004 timeframe, they removed the PTC strips from the pack, so there is a compatibility issue between packs, i.e., 2003 may not work in 2004/2005 and 2004/2005 may not work in 2003.

2003 by default require the PTC strip to be present, which provides a ~30Ω resistance to the circuit.
2004-2005 by default require the PTC to be completely absent with an open circuit.

This was handled at the dealership by flashing the BCM/MCM with the proper firmware to recognize whichever battery was installed, i.e., with or without PTC strips. This was handled by aftermarket builders by removing the PTC strip and spoofing the circuit with a 20-30Ω resistor for 2003 or leaving it open circuit for 2004-2005.

P1569 (70) typically pops up when this mismatch is present. Since it's not present, I would conclude there is a legit fault in the PTC sensing circuit, or an actual failed cell that has damaged the PTC circuit. In other words, the battery is bad.

is there anything else I could check easily to tell it’s the battery instead of per say a module? I mean this is way about my wheelhouse of knowledge lol

So I can return the battery and they will issue me a used one from the junkyard. No guarentee it is better then this one. Or there is a 03 hybrid sedan same as my car on fb marketplace for 500 bucks and just has a bad transmission. Lower miles. Figured could get that take the battery and whatever else I want like the engine with low miles and new tires for my car then scrap the rest?

You can probe the connector while it's plugged in and measure all 10 tap voltages.

Remove IPU lid and probe the connector taking and recording 10 voltages to XX.XX accuracy.

your saying multimeter the positive and negative posts from the hybrid battery? With car running? And then pop off the cover where those lines run and check those? What will this tell me? If it’s for sure battery?
