Default Not impressed

Just bought a yukon hybrid with only 40,000km and went through my first tank of fuel. My numbers were not that impressive despite me doing my best to use electric and V4 modes. My average for the tank was 14.9L/100km and about 550km on the tank. Could there be something mechanically wrong here? Thanks for any input

First tank? Compared to what? A regular Tahoe? If it's the Denali it gets 12 mpg. If you have the 5.7 L V8 that gets better mileage.

I got 15.9 mpg on my escalade hybrid as well but I was towing my MB GLk 350 4 matic above an auto transporter.

What is your drive cycle? Another member here in Jordan had low fuel economy until...

he got out on the more open roads. In town his "normal" drive cycle was 5 km per key cycle.

The roads in town were very bumpy causing regenerative braking to be reduced.

Thanks for the reply, pretty typical driving conditions with a mix of city and highway. I live in Vancouver Canada so some hilly terrain here and there but nothing to steep and quite infrequently. I think my wife may need to adapt her driving a bit more. It's also very hot here right now so battery is always warm and air conditioning is always blasting. I noticed with the a/c off I stay in electric longer; it seems very parasitic.

Once the cabin cools down the A/C power drops pretty low.

What you want to do is pay attention to how hard you accelerate and decelerate.

That "eff" gage kept close to center is best over-all performance. Hard braking exceedes the hybrid electrical regenerative capacity and makes HOT brake pads instead of converting kinetic energy into stored HV power.

Hard acceleration calls up the engine sooner and harder burning more fuel.

The folks with the dusty black/gray front wheels and clean back wheels on their SUVs... that's brake pad material.

They won't benefit from any hybrid. "Digital Driver" all gas or all brakes.

My escalade hybrid had ceramic brake pads that the wheels never turned black.
