Newbie Here!
Just wanted to say hi! I found this site when I was looking at buying a hybrid. I looked at the Prius, Civic and Insight, but I couldn't justify the cost. I ended up buying an 05 2 door civic DX with a 5 spd for just under 13k. I think the only option my car has is AC.

05 civic is nothing to complain about. At least you did not go out and buy a jeep liberty or something like that. Your civic is still a ULEV vehicle and you still have every right to give the finger to people driving 4x4s, v8s, and SUVs.
Congratulations on your purchase, now lets see what kind of FE you can achieve with your new toy.

I don't think that I'll give anyone the finger since:
A. My car is too small to take on a 4x4 or an SUV!
B. Too many people get shot these days during "road rage" episodes!
Here is a confession.....My other car is a 67 Camaro that I restored which does have a V8!!!
i understand the shooting thing...i once got physically confronted (by someone out of a vehicle) at a stoplight due to someone in my car flipping off another vehicle. That was said as a bit of a joke, but you can still think those thoughts.
How often do you drive that Camaro? Do you drive it all by yourself everyday to go get groceries, drop off/pick up the kids from school, take kids to soccer practice, go to the gas station, go back to the grocery store cus you forgot something you cant live without. I doubt it.

Congratulations on your purchase of the non-hybrid civic. For many folks including you, that was probably the most prudent financial decision, given the current cost of hybrids.
And kudos to you for applying the techniques here to get good mileage. Most of the advice will make you a safer driver, in addition giving you better mileage. And with all the folks on the roads these days, we can use all the safer drivers we can get.
