Anybody know where my star is? Earlier today I posted a tank that brought my LMPG well over 31 - it's now posting as 31.1 (see also, sig. below). But still no star... ??? Do I have to pay for it, like a HOV lane sticker? Fill out a form? Take an oath of hypermiling? ??? Or is there some reasonable explanation for why I am still starless?

If you want your star, generally you'll need to choose a higher city percent for the car because otherwise the cutoff will be calculated more towards the highway MPG, but this depends on the EPA ratings. Play around with that setting and I'm sure you can get a star too!

OK, I'm being dense here. If the weighting is more toward the highway EPA est., wouldn't it be LOWER? The Hwy. est. is 29, City is 33. I was told that the cutoff is 31.
(Actually, that was the right idea, Schwa. I had the "highway" percent set at 15%; when I raised it, the star appeared. I have never been sure whether my driving is "highway" or "city" - it is mostly on rural roads where the speed limit is about 45, one lane in each direction, definitely not "stop and go" city-type driving, but not high-speed, limited-access highway driving either. So should I include that in "highway percentage" or not [if I want to be accurate]?)

Yeh, sorry I'm a bit braindead today... You are correct, more highway will give you are more favorable cutoff, city will make it worse.
EPA highway tests are average 48 MPH maximum 60 MPH so most people's non-highway non-stop & go driving is much closer to EPA highway tests. City tests are a lot of idling, not so much stop & go, although there's lots of stopping and going.

Just so I'm clear, I need the lifetime average to beat the EPA ratings to get hypermiler status?
I'll get my 5th tank today of beating the average but it will take me quite a while to overcome the average of those first few tanks.

For the star, it's weighted according to what you input as your % city/hwy driving. For B&B you need 30; S&G needs 31.
