This is old news for the "old-timers" 
but fairly new for me. My gas gauge was on E and my MTE was 29. I stopped at the gas station and filled it up. At 12.75 gallons the tank back pressure caused the "click" and shut off gas flow from the pump into my tank. I then "bumped" my vehicle laterally and then added another .25 gallons, bumped the vehicle again and then repeated the process until I got 14.49 gallons into the tank. This means I added almost 1.75 gallons of gas after the first tank back-pressure click shut off the flow.
Some may ask why bother with this "effort" and I have to admit the local food store allowed me to take $.40 credit per gallon of gasoline. I took advantage of this offer.
