Different Fuel Tank Size?
Can this be correct? The Australian HCH-II holds 50 litres, which equals (by my calculations - 3.785L equals 1 wet US Gallon), 13.21 US Gallons.
According to the web site in the US, the HCH-II holds 12.3 gallons.
Where do they put the extra gallon?

I agree, the difference of 3 liters is noticeable particularly since the normal Civic line actually holds 50 L. According to Honda Canada, there were technical and safety design considerations that we taken into account when rating the fuel capacities.

All HCH's sold in the US that are PZEV (partial zero emission vehicle) rated, have a smaller, specially fabricated fuel tank that suppresses fuel vapor emissions. Don't know about those sold in Australia but I'm assuming that they are just standard ULEV or SULEV rated, which would have the larger fuel tank.
Bingo. I think that's it Ralph.
No fancy fuel tanks for us Aussies.
I also note...after observing some US movies more closely, that you have some sort of scavanging device fitted to your petrol bowser pumps...for the fumes. Nothing like that here!

Hi David,
Here in MA, we used to have these big bulky spring loaded vapor recovery nozzles on the gas pumps. They were very hard to use, and if you didn't insert it right, the pump wouldn't work. So they changed over to a more simple "rubber" flexible boot that fits over the fuel filler neck. Much easier to use now.
I have a first cousin that lives in Australia near the ski resort areas to the south. She and her new hubby work the slopes in the winter.

Not much snow around at the moment, what with all the bush fires.

Bushfire threat eases in Snowy Mountains
Thursday Dec 14 21:10 AEDT
"The bushfire threat to a tiny township in the NSW Snowy Mountains has eased, with firefighters hopeful the blaze will now remain behind containment lines ahead of a cool change.
The fire is still burning close to the Goobragandra Valley, about 10km from Tumut. The blaze had threatened the town but a wind change has now pushed the fire away.
Residents were on Wednesday night told to evacuate but most chose to stay and defend their homes.
Rural Fire Service (RFS) spokeswoman Rebel Talbert said a wind change had pushed the fire back onto itself.
"We're confident we're going to be able to hold this fire behind the containment lines that have been constructed," Ms Talbert said.
"If we do get any spot overs, we have 300 firefighters on the ground who will be able to combat those."
Waterbombing aircraft continued operating until dark on Thursday night and will resume at first light on Friday.
Wind gusts of up to 80km/h are forecast on the fireground for Thursday night but the blaze is now burning in a pine plantation and not in the direction of any properties.
More favourable weather for firefighters is predicted for Friday and across the weekend.
"It's going to be much cooler for the next three days, it is really just a matter of getting through this evening," Ms Talbert said.
"We'd hope to have good containment by the end of the weekend. There is a lot of work needed but the threat has eased."
The fire has so far destroyed 10,000 hectares of bushland and pine plantation in the NSW Snowy Mountains.
Despite a warm day across large parts of NSW, Ms Talbert said there were no new outbreaks of fire or any flare-ups of blazes currently burning across the state."[/I]

I have gotten 13.0 gallons in my HCHII before. Others report even 14.0 - when I first read it, I almost didn't see how that was possible, but since I did not run out and put in 13.0, with just a little bit of pump error, I suppose it is possible...
It is always been possible for me to fit 1.8 gallons of gas in AFTER the first click off of the pump. For my first 12 tanks, I did this every time, filling right up to the top of the filler neck. Now I go with one gallon extra after click off (it takes less time to pump the extra gallon in... gets a little difficult for the last 0.8 with click, click, click!). If you ran it almost dry, getting 14 in should be easy. I've done 13.0, but I'm pretty sure I had a gallon left (I'm too scared to run with less than that!).
