Thanks for making me go back and check. Now I think we have it definitively on the forum.

I forgot to mention... FTM has a video nothing good to say about the transfer cases. They require FREQUENT fluid changes.

Is it possible to remove the AWD? On Hondas you just unscrewed the driveshaft ends.

I don't know but I somehow doubt it's that simple. The power is routed through the Power Transfer Unit to the rear differential and the system is controlled by the 4x4 Control Module, which is another box in the car's network.

There's a long thread here on the forums discussing the 4WD system and its interaction with the traction control system, etc. Somehow I don't think it's as simple as just disconnecting the driveshaft. I could be wrong, though.

In general, the biggest difference between the Hybrids and the standard cars, and the hardest thing for most folks to wrap their minds around, is that the computers on the Hybrids really control ---===<<<EVERYTHING>>>===---.

I read here somewhere that the engagement is done at the diff and the car has no way of knowing if the drive shaft is present. This car does have a mercedes vibe in terms of modules for everything. Plus everything is electric like the p/s, throttle, etc. Going to be interesting. Hope I can bring mine back from the dead.. and my post about it gets mod approval at some point or that I can at least make others.
