Unhappy Passenger Door Ajar

so this is probably not at all hybrid related, but you guys are my car guys now. my 'passenger door ajar' warning has come on, and i can't get it to turn off. I've piddled around with the door latch and had no luck. it's definitely the front passenger side door. What part of the mechanism determines if the door is in fact ajar or not. Or... is it electrical?

Don't want to go back to the dealer for something trivial... if it is.

In the '08 its a magnetic contact switch (like a window sensor on your house security system). There is a magnet in the door on the inside at the rear of the door, and corresponding sensor in the place where that magnet touches when the door is closed.
