Ford Recalls 900K Escapes / Mariner 2008-2011
Interesting. My '08 has always been uneven at transition, which is likely why they changed to rear drums in '09 and did something else I can't remember now. The only thing that temporarily helps is to hit the brakes relatively hard and come to a more abrupt stop, which then helps the transition for awhile till it starts getting uneven again. Nice job on your MPGs! I was able to get 37mpg in stop-and-go once but that was right before I got the SSN warning from my MECS pump crapping out. LOL
I got 49mpg not really trying all that hard in the C-Max today, at least according to the drive readout at the end of the trip. Talk about a fun game to play though. The 'empower' screen tells you how much EV juice you can squeeze out before the ICE turns on, so you can push farther on EV.

Has anyone noticed a difference in the steering since having the recall performed? Mine was done a couple of weeks ago. My wife is the primary driver, so I am not sure if I am imagining something, but it seems like much more effort is required in the last 30 degrees of steering wheel rotation than before. Any thoughts?

Out of curiosity, which fix was performed on your Escape? I just had the reprogramming performed, no hardware was replaced.
I thought mine wasn't turning as tight either, then one time gave it a little more effort and the turning radius was back where I thought it had been. I may just have to ask the dealer about it.

I swapped the FEH out for a C-Max Energi, BTW.
I didn't notice any extra effort or turning radius increase/decrease post-recall. I would be very surprised if whatever change Ford made actually increased or decreased the turning radius, as that's more a mechanical limit, not an electrical one, on most cars. I'll admit I know next to nothing about the electric steering on FEHs though, so don't take anything I say as gospel on the subject. Only the software module upgrade was performed on my 08, BTW. I also upgraded to a C-Max post-recall, though not at all due to the recall -- I simply fell for the excellent value and characteristics of the car.
