Default Ford Recalls 900K Escapes / Mariner 2008-2011

Ford is recalling 900K Escapes because the power steering may cut out at low speeds. I know this affects the FEH because they replaced my steering column under my extended warranty, after I lost all steering for a few seconds several times.

Mine does this on a semi-regular basis. Part way through an intersection making a left and my steering craps out.

Exactly my symptoms, always in a left turn at slow speeds. You should be fixed by the recall.

I thought I've been imagining it! (I admit I don't get to driver her much anymore; the wife stole it from me)

I logged into owner.ford no notice yet; when will that be updated? I have a Gen 1 08 (purchased May 07, built in KC) prior to the radio controls added to the steering wheel.

Sounds exactly like mine, purchased in Feb 08, built in late 2007. No audio controls here either.

Not sure when they will update the site. But they should also send you a letter. You might also check with the dealer; if the recall is official and they get word, they should fix it for you. I'd get that done as soon as possible.

There's another article which stated, owners to be notified by July 25, 2014.

There's extensive discussion of this issue in this topic (among others):

Brought mine into the dealership to replace the evap canister/charcoal and had them look into the recall. They won't touch the recall until end of July'ish since Ford hasn't sent them any directives on how to fix the issue.

So if your EPAS goes out, they won't touch it till July?
