FEH Battery Differences Between Years/Other questions
Quick update…let me correct myself.
2005-2007 Models contain the Square shaped BCM, a jump starter have a ton more grounds in the pack, different PCB boards configurations, compared to the 08-09. Between 05-07, the only difference I can notice is some of the cable management went from a material that looks like the bristle side of a sponge to some foam. The vent is also a different material between these years. But all electronics are compatible and you will have zero issues installing anything between these 3 years.
2008 Incorporates the Newer L shaped BCM, fewer grounds (noticeably less complicated), but retains the jumpstart module.
2009 has the same configuration as the 2008 without the jumpstart module.
Battery years can be found on these batteries very easily by the label on the top lid, as the first digit will tell you the year made for years 05-09 and you can tell if they have a jump starter or not using my key above, or by looking at the number following “m” in the sequence. Following the M, 64 indicated a jump starter is included, 68 means no jump starter. (Confirm no one has tampered with the pack or the label means nothing)
For example:
6M64
6=2006
M64 means the pack has the jump start unit.
9M68
2009, has no jump starter
So far, I can confirm this by having 20 of these torn down over the last few weeks, several of each year.
I am taking apart a 2010 this week and will confirm any differences in components. I will individually take apart a 2011, 2012, and 2013 to confirm any of these differences. Bottom line is this.
For anyone purchasing a used pack: DO NOT follow any compatibility guidelines on sites like Car-Part . Com or trust any salvage yards. 2005-2009 are NOT compatible. 2005-2007 are one style, 2008 is another and 2009 is another. Again I will update thread once I take these newer ones apart.

Almost had it perfect. Just to clarify one more time because Ford had to be so darned weird. (Thank you for always helping everyone else out on this forum, I have gone a great length to confirm this stuff and you and this thread have helped tremendously)
05-07 same same, square shaped computer, more grounds, more pcb stuff, has jump starter
08 new, L shaped computer (retains jump start unit)
09 same as 08 but with no jump starter
Take it to the bank.

Working beliefs:
05-08 are 100% battery level compatible in the backward direction. Ford themselves specifies the same battery part number. 05-07 may not work in 08, but 08 will work in 05-08.
09 is only specified as working in an 09, but I believe it will fully function in an 05-08 as well minus the jump starter.
10-12 is only specified as compatible with 10-12.
NOW FOR THE KICKER...
I helped someone install a self-sourced 2010 into a 2007. The install included incorporation of an internal meanwell power supply for jump starting. It was uneventful aside from a U0155 code that we regarded as irrelevant as it was "not present at time of request" and triggered no dash lights.
He had been scrutinizing his battery for some time, and had documented several data points over many months with Forscan prior to replacement. DEL_MOD_V would increase if the car sat and would actually worsen following the rebalance routine. We concluded it was time for a new battery.
After the install and a balance operation, he noticed three things:
1) The car refused to force the engine on when running the routine. He had to turn on max AC to get it to finish.
2) When monitoring post-drive, the battery was running at notably higher temps than usual. The battery was reading about 36°C - pretty hot for the mild Phx climate this time of year, particularly on a vehicle with a fully operational HVAC system.
3) When conducting the BCM self test, the blend door no longer actuated as part of the process.
The hypothesis is that a 2010+ battery BCM can't control the cooling system of an 05-09. The speculation is that an 09 (possibly 08) BCM installed in the 2010 battery may enable full control of the battery cooling system. I have an '09 BCM around here somewhere, and he's going to try it.

Hi guys so reading through this thread and wow great information. From what I gather the battery remains the same apart from the BCM and the self jump unit. So this leaves to wonder if the BCM are interchangeable on all these batteries? According to the research the 08 and 09 batteries are pretty much the same just no self jumping correct? So if I where to swap in a 08 HV battery into a 05 escape, jumped it and then removed that 08 battery swapped the 09 BCM into the 08 battery would it run with out any battery temperature issues with the fans?
I know there is a jumping thread on here but I have the HV batteries on hand so trying to do this cheaply 😁

08 different BCM w/jumpstart
09 maybe same BCM as 08 no jumpstart
10-12 same battery, likely different BCM.
09 and 10-12 still have vestigial connectors for the jump starter.
Cooling unit has different part numbers for each of the above groups.
Confirmed:
2010 battery installed in 2007 will not operate the battery cooling system. No blend door or compressor function. Simply recirculates hot air in the battery.
2010 battery installed in 2007 with 2009 BCM installed. No cooling system operation - just like 2010 BCM
I do not understand the goal of your proposed combinations.
hmm 🤔 i think i was over thinking things. But i believe 08 HV battery in a 09 FEH will work. The 09 has a drained battery and will not power on the car but i have access to an 08 and an 05 FEH. Meanwhile i get ahold of a charger to charge the 09 hv battery was just going to flop an 08 battery pack in to operate the car.
just trying not to damage the HV battery pack in the process.

I have an 09 FEH with a battery that is in need of replacement. I have acquired a battery from an 07 FEH. Should I be able to use the 07 battery in the 09 if (and if I can) I move the bcm from the 09 battery to the 07 battery when doing the swap?

The car ran fine, but it had a persistent code (a communication error, IIRC.) No lights or warnings. I later bought an '09 parts car and swapped the HVTBs. The '08 HVTB worked fine in that wrecked '09 as well.
So in my experience with two '09s, the '08 HVTB will work.

Let me clarify.
With near certainty an 07 will start and drive an 09. I can't confirm, but suspect so, that it will properly control the battery cooling system.
