Default Escape recall notice 06C12

Did anyone get a recall notice about

"The energy absoring material located above the the forward corners of the interior headliner may not absorb sufficient energy for your vehicle to conform to the requirements specified in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 201U. In the event of a crash, an occupant could contact the location and may not be provided the interior impact protection intended."

I mean really, weren't they suppose to find this out when they conducted their crash tests?

It only applies to those Escapes without side air bags though. So you should be fine if you have them.

If you are an environmentalist, Safety Features > Fuel Economy > Performance

If you are a car enthusiast, Safety Features > Performance > Fuel Economy

My conclusion is, safety is #1.

I got the recall notice on my '05 but haven't taken it in yet. Before I bring it in, I was wondering if anyone has had the work done already.

What does it involve? I spoke briefly with the service department at the dealer and she mentioned drilling some holes which always makes me nervous.

Anyone had this done yet?

Thanks.

It seems that they need to remove the interior roof covering and drill some (2?) holes if there are none. At least thats what my ford tec of a boyfriend told me.
