Yea, I thought about the V6 Escape but was reading post from owners that stated a 3,000 lb boat was a little much to keep under control with it. I just wanted a safe feel like I was getting with the Explorers and needed that braking in an emergency stop. Trailer brakes would help, but are hard to maintain in saltwater here.

I feel the same way about the '13 Escapes. A short haul like travelover stated should be no problem as I see my neighbor towing his '17 boat to the ramp a few miles away with his new 1.6L EB Escape. I just prefer towing well under the capacity, not over.

I was thought that it was funny that the towing capacity for the I4 compared to the V6 was lower yet at the U-Haul site, their tow hitch finder never asks about what engine you have.

The Prius does not have a towing rating. The Highlander has a much larger engine that enables this tow rating.

I would note that the Camry Hybrid (which has the same displacement and horsepower Atkinson cycle I-4 as the Escape hybrid and similar hybrid system) has no towing allowed by Toyota; so, it would seem that it is not simply a matter of power. And the non-hybrid Camrys do have a stated towing capacity; so, it is not simply a matter of the chassis strength either.

This has been a discussion of come contention on the Camry threads.

I have some thoughts about this, and I would like to read some more info and opinions of others as well.

Since the issue transcends models and manufacturers, I think I will start a thread in the general section.

You're late to the FEH discussion panel. Five/six years ago it was hot and lively at this location with what the FEH was capable of and "other".

I question the ability of the C-Max to match what is shown in these photos.

The 2005 FEH is rated as what? A half-ton, so why are you hauling more than your supposed to and bragging about it?

Actually it never had a tow package from the factory, but did have a tow rating of 1000# with an after market hitch.

They were speaking about the 2013 FE not an FEH in the past and the FE did have a OEM factory installed hitch. Besides factory suggested tow and hauling capacity are totally ignored by several in this forum.

Thanks, I missed the shift into non-hybrid comparison. I ignore the tow rating on my FEH, too. It is not based on SAE J2807. According to my friends in the hybrid engineering department, the 1000# rating was pulled out of someone's keister.

Hi Tom

This thread was started with the wrong assumption that there is a '13 Escape Hybrid. Of course, there isn't. Billy tried to compare the C-Max to the older FEH, but I don't think S Jack got his point. Then Willard confused things even more with new changes in the C-Max eCVT not being a Toyota design. Crazy!
