Does the FEH has full-time AWD? My impression was that it is a automatic 4WD, meaning it's usually FWD until necessary, if the front wheels are losing traction, the AWD/4WD would kick in. Anyone care to clarify on this?

The AWD has sensors in each wheel that feel the slippage and send signals to the traction drive which will then turn the axle of the opposite axle. Under normal conditions front wheel drive (FWD) but AWD (4WD when required). The driver has no control.
