I tried to find the tweeters by injecting a high frequency sound and listening. No sucess. I e-mailed the question to Ford. Here is their answer:

Dear David,

Thank you for contacting the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center regarding the tweeters of your 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid.

We recommend that you contact your local Ford dealership regarding your inquiry because they have factory trained technicians, comprehensive service information and specialized equipment to resolve your concerns. They are in the best position to discuss and review your request.

.....

The Customer Relationship Center does not function as a technical or diagnostic repair facility. In the rare case where a staff member of any dealership is unable to answer a technical question regarding one of our products, there are technical resources available exclusively to them from Ford Motor Company where answers may be obtained.

If you have any other inquiries, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to address them for you.

Sincerely,
Fatima

Questions: 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid with Audiophile System. Where are the tweeters? I can only find 5 speakers, not the 7 advertised.

....and the dealer has no idea where to find the tweeters. They just say the car has the factory Audiofile system. So it has what is advertised.

Maybe the tweeters and the window pillar grab handles were deleted as part of a cost reduction, but they neglected to change their advertising.

And, I still cannot get the manual supplement for the NAV system.

Is the Audiophile system also a supplement?

I have had a 6" windshield tint band installed on both of my FEH's(my previous 05 & my current 06)& it worked just fine.

I have done tinting myself, but I had the FEH done professionally because I wanted it perfect & I can get a discount through where I work(I work at a car dealer).

Well the tint looks great on mine! I have used the same guy for some of my other cars. Whatever he did it looks good, I can't even see the dot matrix anymore. so that went well. Anyway back to the topic at hand. David this tweeter thing is killing me! where are they?? I have asked my dealer and they have no idea it sounds like Ford has no idea, with the stupid standard answer. There has to be someone who knows!!

On top of that, the dash is completely different for the standard radio and the nav radio so you are going to have to get a new center dash section. Seems like it might get ugly.
The dealer had a sub contractor install the NAV system. Everything seems to work OK. They gave me the NAV manual for a Lincoln Navigator. The installer said that is what came with the NAV system. The Lincoln has a lot of nice features plugged into the same NAV system! Voice Recognition, steering wheel controls, Mirror controls, Backup camera, rear audio and DVD controls.

But no info on the Hybrid screen or the two calibrate functions.

I asked the dealer for the correct manual. And now they are finger pointing. Service dept. to sales dept. to installer to Ford and back again.

And, I still have no answer on the tweeters! Does anyone have an 08 with tweeters? If so, I want to know where to find them. A picture would be even better!

It gives a " not enough detail " voice message. I called Ford who referred me to NAVTEQ. NAVTEQ supplies the maps to Ford and Garmin and probably others. NAVTEQ said the version of their maps that Ford supplied with the vehicle was later than they have released. They also said each NAV system supplier determines how to use the maps so I should expect wide variation between systems. I also have a Garmin 330 StreetPilot with NAVTEQ maps, but it works fine when the Ford system falters.
Having said that, the NAV system has special qualities for the Hybrid that I love. The graph showing the mpg for the last 15 minutes, in one minute intervals is GREAT, as is the power flow screen.
My mileage has been interesting. In mostly around town driving the first tank yielded 36 mpg while the second gave around 33. This may be a function of the hybrid system being very temperature sensitive. When the temp is below 60 degrees the gas engine runs about 15 minutes after initial start, with the HVAC off. Above 60 it runs about 5 minutes. I had cold temps here in South Carolina the second week.
Overall I love the 2008 Escape Hybrid.
John, My NAV works great in town, but not rural. It tells me that some points on my route are not mapped and that I should follow the yellow line. ...we now call the NAV voice "Dorothy".

That is exactly the same thing the factory NAV in my 06 did, now you know why I dumped that piece of garbage & replaced it with an aftermarket unit.

The mapping/routing function in my Eclipse is superb. I have used it on numerous trips lately as we went College hunting all over the East coast for my 18 year old son. I was using the NAV unit constantly to find POI's & routes to addresses that I was unfamiliar with & it worked flawlessly in every single instance.

Do you have the map zoomed out too much?

I know that some more minor roads/streets aren't displayed at the normal zoom level, but if you zoom in more, they appear.

The roads where I have had the "yellow brick road" experience are up a mountain in San Diego back country. I also had the experience last week end headed towards the West entrance to the Grand Canyon. I like the NAV in town. I also have a Nissan. Both NAVs have features I like. The Nissan is too verbose. She just doesn't shut up!

It has nothing to do with the zoom level, all that does is show/not show the roads on the map. Even if you have it zoomed out to 500 miles, it will still plot a route just fine if the data is correct in the unit. When it says the "area is not mapped", it means just that-the info is not there in the unit.
