27 Vehicle Engine Information
2008 MARINER HYBRID 4WD 2.3L I4 ATKINSON CYCLE ENGINE ECVT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Actual mileage will vary with options, driving conditions, driving habits and vehicle's condition. Results reported to EPA indicate that the majority of vehicles with these estimates will achieve between 24 and 34 mpg in the city and between 22 and 32 mpg on the highway.
For Comparison Shopping all vehicles classified as have been issued mileage ratings from 08 to 31 mpg city and 12 to 19 mpg highway.
So...

29/27 is the NEW EPA mileages. The sticker didn't have the old (<2007) EPA figures. I'd be interested if THOSE went up/down at all. 27/29 pretty much corresponds to the mean of the GH database.

That is all that was under the mileage. From what I read it would have been +3 MPG on both HIGHWAY and CITY or 32 hwy and 35 City for 4WD.

So, 27 Hwy and 29 City is the new 2008 reduced calcuations.

This would be in line with the increase Federal Tax Credits. The 4WD six cylinder was rated 17 City and 22 Hwy for 2008 vs 20 city and 24 hwy in 2007.

If you search inventory on 2007 Mariners is show 2007 and 2008 all types.

These changes occur every year; for example, in 2007 the City fuel economy for the AWD version dropped 1 mpg when compared to 05 and 06.

It will be interesting if the labels or EPA note what the City and Highway labels would have been based on the previous testing regimen.
Well...

If you can eek out another 3mpg (like the article suggests), then that is a mpg increase of about 10%.

(I'll take it...emphasis here on "IF". We'll just have to see).

Yes I know it's not a "new generation" like the Prius...

Yes and with a tax credit difference of $800, I decided to go with the FWD. $2550 plus reduced mileage isn't worth AWD.
