NYIAS News: DEUS Vayanne Hypercar Debuts, EVs Sweep World Car Awards

New York International Auto Show sees DEUS Vayenne debut as most powerful EV ever, and Hyundai IONIQ 5 sweeps awards.

It is pretty well known that the 1,900 horsepower Rimac is one of the most successful hypercar EVs on the market. And now, player 2 has connected via the DEUS Vayanne EV hypercar. Debuting at the New York International Auto Show, the Vayenne will set the benchmark for power in an EV. How much? DEUS claims 2,200 horsepower will be available from the hypercar.

DEUS formed very recently – in 2020 – but has already partnered with Italdesign for the stunning shape, and with Williams Advanced Engineering for the technical aspects. Details have yet to be released on how the 2,200 horsepower will be achieved, but we’re certain that mark is achievable. Range, for what it’s worth, wasn’t even mentioned.

One thing is for sure, the future is fast. DEUS claims 0-60 will take a scant 1.99 seconds. At full tilt, it’ll do 248 miles per hour.

Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 Wins Multiple World Car Awards

Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 has won over the press, as evidenced by its performance at the World Car Awards during the New York International Auto Show. In total, Hyundai’s EV won “World Car of the Year,” “Electric Vehicle of the Year,” and “Car Design of the Year.”

The IONIQ 5 was entered into just those three categories, and won them all, among steep competition. And of all the awards to win, World Car of the Year is toughest. 28 vehicles were nominated to that category, then pared down to three finalists, with the IONIC 5 taking home the win.

“This extraordinary vehicle was made possible by the passion and efforts of designers and engineers who pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in the EV space.” Those words came from SangYup Lee, who is the EVP and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center. He noted the IONIQ 5’s departure from traditional styling, by using “Paremetric Dynamics.” You and I call it sharp lines, and tight creases, along with almost pixelated lighting.

World Car Awards also awarded a number of other EVs, too. Audi’s e-tron GT nammed World Performance Car of the Year. Mercedes picked up World Luxury Car of the Year, too with the EQS. In fact, the awards were almost exclusively picked up by electric vehicles.
