Rimac Nevera

Matt Watson races the all-new Rimac Nevera against Ferrari SF90 and manages to set a new World Record for production cars.

Croatian EV manufacturer, Rimac Automobili has introduced its all-new Nevera supercar. Matt Watson from carwow got behind the wheel of the electric-only offering to drag race it against Ferrari SF90 Stradale. Prancing Horse brand’s PHEV gets an all-wheel-drive setup and is powered by a 986 HP hybrid V8. With 1914 HP, the all-electric powertrain of the Rimac Nevera produces almost twice as much power as the Ferrari.

Nevertheless, Matt decided it would be appropriate to drag race the two offerings against one another. Watson was joined by the Founder and CEO of Rimac Automobili, Mate Rimac, who offered an overview of Nevera’s specifications. “Four electric motors, 120 kWh battery pack, 2360 Newton-meters (1740 lb-ft) of torque, and lots of power on the wheels,” said Mate.

As expected, Nevera pulled away from the SF90 without even breaking a sweat and managed to beat the Italian supercar by a substantial margin. This set the overall tone for the rest of the video, as Matt could not keep up with Nevera’s ferocious performance in the Ferrari.

“It’s never been so much fun, getting so badly beaten. I had a good launch there, it was pretty blooming good,” said Watson. After losing for the third time (even though he cheated), Watson decided that he had had enough of the Ferrari and decided to jump into the Nevera.

The Rimac Navera has one of the simplest launch control procedures of any modern supercar. As there is no IC engine to rev, the driver only has to hold down the brake and throttle pedals down until he/she wants to set off, at which point one simply has to let go of the brake pedal, and the electric drivetrain propels the all-electric hypercar forward at blistering speeds.

Understandably, Matt managed to do a much better job in Rimac and describe the experience as, ”I imagine that’s what it feels like to be shot out of the barrel of a gun. It’s just insane.”

Piloted by Matt, the Rimac Nevera ran a quarter-mile in just 8.62 seconds, which Mate claims is a new world record for production cars. The Rimac even managed to beat the Ferrari in a brake test after beating the Italian PHEV in multiple rolling drag races. However, the battery-only supercar’s impressive performance is an exciting spectacle to behold.
